Scott Riddle has more than 30 years of experience representing individuals, businesses, creditors, trustees, and other parties in bankruptcy cases, business disputes, real estate litigation, and related matters. His practice draws on experience gained from clerking for a United States Bankruptcy Judge, working at a large international law firm, and operating his own Atlanta law firm for more than three decades.
Scott represents clients throughout Georgia and has also handled matters involving parties and proceedings in other states. He regularly assists clients with Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases, creditor representation, trustee matters, business and bankruptcy litigation, out-of-court workouts and wind-downs, and complex business and financial disputes.
Scott graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees in 1987. He received his law degree, with honors, from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1991. After law school, Scott served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable W. Homer Drake Jr., United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Northern District of Georgia. He then practiced in the bankruptcy and litigation sections of a large international law firm based in Atlanta before establishing his own firm.
Professional Experience and Recognition
Scott is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Georgia, the Georgia Court of Appeals, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the United States District and Bankruptcy Courts for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Georgia. He has also been admitted pro hac vice to represent clients in courts in other states.
In 2005, Scott founded the Georgia Bankruptcy Blog, making him one of the earliest attorneys in the country to regularly publish legal commentary through a blog. He has spoken at continuing legal education seminars and has been cited or featured in publications including The Wall Street Journal Online, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the Fulton County Daily Report, and CNN.
Scott is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and its Bankruptcy Law and General Practice and Trial Law Sections. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the Bankruptcy Section of the Atlanta Bar Association. His professional affiliations have included the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Georgia Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association, and the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys.
Community, Mission, and Relief Work
Away from the office, Scott has devoted substantial time to community service, international mission work, and disaster-relief projects. He has participated in international mission and relief efforts in several countries, including Haiti, Kenya, Panama, Chile, and Russia. Scott was also a founding director of a mission organization that has operated for more than twenty-five years. His local civic involvement has included service through his church, regular volunteer work with charitable organizations, and participation in the Kiwanis Club, the Buckhead Business Association, and Rotary.
